The following is the transcript of a live interview with Renee Ramey. You can read the interview below or listen to the recording.
Megan Ellsworth: Hello everyone. My name is Megan Ellsworth here at MetalCoffeeShop.com, and I am here with Renee Ramey from the Metal Roofing Alliance. And we're talking about women in metal for this month's March influencer response. So this month's question is, how have women influenced the metal industry overall and why should more women consider careers in metal construction? Renee, take it away.
Renee Ramey: Hello. Thank you for having me. Oh gosh, where to start? I think in every facet you can imagine women have impacted the industry, and I totally see it from positions of more of the day-to-day running of companies and support functions up to a lot of women that either are presidents or C-level. So both individuals in companies or owners of companies. And it's just such a great thing to see as far as the involvement growing over the years and women within the roofing industry being more accepted. And so that's what I'm seeing. That's how it's changed.
And as far as what women bring to the table, there are any number of things, there's many. But of the ones that come to mind for me, the most prominent are a different approach to things a lot of times. A different way of seeing things that come up, a different way of envisioning how things might work and what might go over better with homeowners. And, in the roofing industry, obviously you're appealing (in the MRA front at least) to a lot of homeowners. And, you know, women homeowners are a very important part of that homeowner equation. And I think absolutely women within the industry bring a lot of that mindset. They view things and see things from more of that woman of the home perspective instead of just trying to accommodate or adjust the messaging to a male perspective.
Megan Ellsworth: Absolutely. That is so well said. And often a perspective that is overlooked when selling to homeowners.
Renee Ramey: Yes, absolutely. And we've been told, although I don't know that I always believe it or accept it, I've been told so many times over the last several years that the ultimate decision maker in selecting a roof for a home typically is the female, you know, the woman of the home. And so from that perspective, it's, it's even better to have females on staff and in the industry that can walk the walk, talk the talk and understand maybe a little better.
Megann Ellsworth: Absolutely. Absolutely. That was so well said, and thank you so much for your response this month, Renee, as being a woman in the metal industry. Thank you. Absolutely. We'll see you all next month.
