Why You Shouldn’t Wait Until the Slow Season to Advance Your Business

Leap Slow Season
August 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

Listen to what industry expert, Patrick Fingles, has to say about working on the backend of your business even during the busiest parts of the year.

Even though you might be up to your eyeballs in jobs during the busy season, it’s still always important to think about what you can be doing to improve your business and to generate more leads. On a recent episode of Roofing Road Trips, host, Heidi J. Ellsworth, sat down with CEO of Leap, Patrick Fingles, to discuss why it’s important to do so.

There’s a difference between working “in your business” and “on your business” and you can’t wait around to work “on” it. “One of the things I'm super disciplined about, me personally, is trying to understand when I'm working in my business versus on my business, and that needs to be all the time, every single week,” Patrick explained, “Even when we get into March and April and May and things are booming, you just can't get sucked in and say, ‘Hey, I can't work on my business if something's not working until wintertime.’

Business owners often get sucked up into the craziness of their busy season and often don’t take the time to fix the problems at hand. Patrick advises, “If you have a process that's broken or you have a process that could be more efficient through technology and it's the middle of March and that process is causing you pain, take the hour, two hours every single day it takes to implement the software in the middle of your busiest time.” Patrick continued, “I love taking advantage of the slow time, but I don't want you to wait through the busy time if you have a problem . You got to crack it when you attack it.”
