S-5! specializes in producing and distributing clamps and brackets for metal roofs and has done so for 30 years. In recent years, the company has been educating contractors and customers about solar panel installation.
In a recent episode of Roofing Road Trips, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with Mark Gies to learn more about what is involved in solar installation and how S-5! can help in this process as the popularity of solar increases.
Mark is the director of product management at S-5! and has been working in solar for over 13 years. His wealth of knowledge has contributed to S-5!'s success in training people to install solar. “We spend a lot of effort educating and trying to do the right thing for the industry.” Part of accomplishing this is by helping people understand the Inflation Reduction Act and how it can help customers save on implementing renewable resources into their lives.
“The recent thing that has gotten everyone excited... is this Inflation Reduction Act. It's solidifying the federal tax credits that were on the fence the last few years for the next 10 years at least,” Mark explains.
Tax credits the Inflation Reduction Act allows for will help Americans make their buildings and homes energy efficient. Widespread access to energy-efficiency has never existed like this before.
Metal roofs are perfect for solar panels, and Mark doesn’t hesitate to let his customers know this. “Metal is the best place to put solar,” explains Mark. The lifespan of a metal roof far exceeds that of an asphalt or wood roof. It is a good idea to put solar panels on a roof that will outlast the panel itself. Otherwise, the next time the roof needs replacement, both the panels and the roof will have to be removed. This process can be costly and time-consuming.
S-5! offers a variety of engineered solutions for mounting Solar PV and related components on both standing seam and exposed-fastener metal roofing.
