Sherwin-Williams is well known for their 5,800 paint stores across the United States, but that’s actually just one of three of their divisions. They also operate consumer brands such as Valspar paint, Geocel sealants and Krylon spray paint. And the third prong is the industrial division. In this episode of MetalTalk™, Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke to Mark MacDonald of Sherwin-Williams about how this diverse background has fostered the most comprehensive and informational platforms for the contracting industry — the MetalVue program.
Mark explained what this program’s goals are, saying, “To transform a manufacturer to someone who can service this market and service and even transform a contractor into someone who can be a homeowner in the home sales, retail facing.” Essentially, it takes the experience Sherwin-Williams has gained over the years in their various divisions in adding value for everyone involved and shares it in an accessible way for other contractors and manufacturers. Mark elaborated, “One of the reasons our manufacturers and contractors are signing up for the program is because of our brand. You could look at this as a brand delivery system because the strongest brand in the market is Sherwin-Williams in the residential space.”
This program took over six years to develop and it’s clear how much care and detail was put into the creation process. A great example of this is the Dealer Portal, made in collaboration with Grosso University. Mark explained its role, “The Dealer Portal is a place that's a one-stop shop where you can go in there, you can grab marketing collateral, you can grab digital, you can grab links to other products and services that may be associated with those products.” Beyond the accessibility to products this portal provides, it was intentionally designed to include tutorials and trainings for improving the sales process and more. Providing these tools and education makes the MetalVue program a powerful tool for contractors with businesses of all sizes.
