Every month, The Coffee Shops send out a question to the RCS, MCS and CCS Influencers. These groups are made up of experts and professionals in all parts ofthe field. They have expertise in everything from on the roof work to the behind-the-scenes business smarts to keeping a contracting office running smoothly. The purpose of sending these questions is to get their opinions, tips and advice about timely topics in the industry.
Recently, we asked them about contractors who are looking to get into metal. Specifically, we asked them to share any advice they have for adding metal construction to a contracting business. This is what Haley Iselin of Metal Roof Specialties had to share:
"Make sure you understand the differences when calculating labor and material costs of metal versus other materials. It is a premium product, and you should charge accordingly. In our experience working with contractors, the ones who do well with metal also are very organized with their time and planning. They take the time to calculate what’s needed and include some extra. Since most material isn’t just sitting on the shelf, this pays off in a big way when you don’t have to wait for something to be fabricated trying to finish a job."
Haley Iselin is the Vice President of Metal Roof Specialties. See her full bio here.
