Understand why a roof sweats and how to prevent it from happening.

Editors Note: Show this to your customers to educate them on roof sweat.

Metal roofs are more prone to gathering condensation than other roofs. If your metal roof has been sweating, don’t worry! RPS Metal Roofing has some great tips to prevent it from happening.

Why does my metal roof sweat?

Your metal roof is most likely sweating because the surrounding air is colder than the dew point on the metal itself. This can occur when the temperature drops suddenly or if there’s high humidity. When the humidity is high, the air holds less water vapor and it will either condense on your roof or fall to the ground.

The causes of metal roof condensation

There are a few different things that can cause metal roof condensation. The most common is a sudden drop in temperature. When the air around your roof gets cooler than the dew point of the metal, it can cause condensation. This is most likely to happen during cold snaps or when a cold front moves in.

Humidity can also cause metal roof condensation. If the air is full of water vapor, it can’t hold anymore, and that water has to go somewhere. It will either fall to the ground as precipitation or condense on your roof. High humidity is usually caused by weather patterns like tropical storms or hurricanes.

Finally, if there’s a lot of moisture in the air, it can condense on your roof. This is most likely to happen after a heavy rainstorm. The water vapor in the air will be drawn to the cooler metal surface and condense there.

How to prevent metal roof condensation

There are a few things you can do to prevent metal roof condensation. The most important thing is to keep the air around your roof warm. This can be done by insulating your attic or installing a vapor barrier. You should also ensure that your vents are clear and not blocked by insulation.

Another way to prevent metal roof condensation is to reduce the air’s moisture. This can be done by using a dehumidifier or by venting your attic.

Finally, you can try to keep the metal roof itself cool. This can be done by painting it a light color or installing reflective panels.

When to call a professional?

If you’re still having problems with condensation on your metal roof, it’s time to call a professional. They can help you identify the cause of the problem and find a solution that works for you. So don’t wait until your roof is damaged by condensation – call a professional today.

Metal roof condensation is a common problem, but it can be prevented. By keeping the air around your roof warm, reducing the amount of moisture in the air, and keeping the metal roof cool, you can prevent condensation from forming.
