In a recent webinar in the 2023 Contractor Development series, expert Scott Siegel from the Certified Contractors Network (CCN) shared valuable insights to increasing sales through expanding offered services to include post-storm restoration work. As most damage restoration from harsh weather conditions is covered by some form of insurance, and it happens quite often during storm season, this could easily become a great and lucrative type of work to build an expertise in.   

The team at CCN discussed the factors contractors should consider when deciding to go into this line of work, from the basics of getting started to the complex, yet learnable, new skills that need to be offered such as how to sell insurance claim assistance to homeowners and how to work with insurance adjusters.  

Scott explained, “We’re showing how you can succeed in the world of insurance work and doing repairs that insurance companies will pay for.” After getting his start in storm damage work in 1999 after a major storm hit his area, he found an opportunity to learn how to work with insurance companies to offer insurance-covered restorations. From there, he learned a lot about the business of storm damage, and how it’s an area that is constantly changing. From this experience, he’s gathered a wealth of helpful tips that he shares in the webinar.  

From wind damage to hail damage and hurricanes, there are certain policies insurance companies follow with conditions that the damage to a home must meet in order to be covered. Scott goes over these different situations and explains how to best navigate them and how to work with the insurance companies and adjusters so that you and your crew can best maximize profit from your storm restoration services.
