In a recent MetalTalk webinar, Karen L. Edwards had a conversation with Dominic Caminata, owner and founder of Grosso University, about how to propel a metal roofing sales program into a lucrative and sustainable operation. With roots in the industry since 2010, Dominic is an expert in sales training and business development, specializing in metal roofing. Let’s take a look at some of the key takeaways from their conversation.
Competition in the roofing industry is fierce. Dominic stresses the importance of differentiating your services to stand out. "Human beings are hardwired to desire things they deem to be more unique and exclusive," he said. Dominic also advocates for focusing on the value, quality, longevity and affordability of your metal roofing products instead of trying to beat competitors on price.
He also emphasized setting clear metrics for sales teams. Performance benchmarks keep reps accountable, ensuring profitable operations. Similarly, a well-organized call center backed up by effective lead generation can be the backbone of a good sales program. “If you're out of leads, you're out of business,” he says.
Quality sales training should also be a central part of your sales program. Training should be an ongoing process, not a one-off event. "The best salespeople are not born from the womb, they're trained to be the best," said Dominic.
Lastly, Dominic recommends collaborating with metal roofing manufacturers for frequent updates on product knowledge and certification. "As soon as you start working with these manufacturers, they're so hands-on with making sure that all the products and services you offer are going to set your team up for optimal success," Dominic added.
