In the latest MetalTalk, industry expert Geoff Bernstein, director of marketing at Vicwest, talked about the transformative impact that metal materials are having on the construction landscape.
Geoff details the remarkable growth of metal siding, highlighting key benefits like durability, longevity, aesthetics and sustainability. "When it comes to sustainability, steel is 100% recyclable. Pretty much every ton of steel that we've got has about 35% recycled content," Geoff said.
There has been a revolution in metal siding's design, as trends like replicating the warmth and charm of wood aesthetics through hyper-realistic wood grain graphics have increased in popularity. The approach provides stunning and realistic building exteriors that are also easy to maintain and highly durable. The flexibility of metal siding is making it suitable for diverse applications, from residential complexes to commercial buildings, changing the way architects approach design.
Discussing Vicwest's Bellara collection, Geoff introduced various metal siding profiles that offer creative options and innovation. He emphasized the constant evolution in the design of metal siding, with upcoming additions like board and batten and shiplap looks broadening design possibilities for both contractors and homeowners. Geoff notes that these products are “traditional siding products that exist within wood and fiber cement and vinyl. And we strongly believe that there's a home in that space for steel.”
Color trends also play a significant role in metal siding design, as Vicwest collaborates with Sherwin-Williams to select colors that resonate with the market. "Global color trends trickle down across any number, multiple industries, from appliances to cars to fashion to siding. Eventually it all just kind of intertwines,” Geoff said. “It's a constant evolution of the color palette”
