Triple snow retention needed

Some roofing projects are trickier than others. That was the case when AVI Roofing tackled a home re-roofing project last year in Denver.

Multiple roofing systems meant multiple challenges. Tile and metal roofs, plus solar panels on the same home meant the team had its work cut out for them. One of the challenges was determining the best snow retention system for each roofing component.

“Our company has used the free layout and quote services from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards for several years,” according to Brianna McCallian, account manager with AVI Roofing out of Denver, Colorado. “Personally, I use the service mostly for custom projects, at least once a month. It was definitely a help for this specific job.”

Expert recommendations

For this “three-roof-in-one” project, Rocky Mountain Snow Guards recommended the Drift II 2-pipe fence-style snow retention system for over the tile roofing. The 8” tall aluminum, dark bronze color snow fence was bolted directly to the roof support structure.

To reduce snow avalanches from the slick metal roofing, the company suggested the S-5!® Punched ColorGard® Bar-Style Clamp-to-Seam snow retention system. Slotted every 4” on center for seams spaced accordingly, dark bronze color strips were inserted into the front face of the bar to complement the roof color.

While a Drift Solar Snow Fence was originally specified for placement below the solar panels, the team decided to have the company installing the solar panels handle the snow retention for that area.

“I feel confident in the estimates I put out that include snow retention because I trust the Rocky Mountain Snow Guards team,” says Brianna. “They not only quote the right product, but also they are expertly recommending the right system for the location and roof assembly.”
