By Cass Jacoby.
This month’s A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply project of the month comes from South Carolina, where a roofer used “A” and “B” Roof Decks. “A” Roof Deck, also known as Narrow Rib deck, is 1 ½” deep, 6” on center. This kind of deck is mostly used in repair and reroofing projects to match existing profiles in older buildings, it is rarely used in new construction and its load capacity is lower than the “B” Roof Deck.
The “B” Roof Deck is also known as Wide Rib deck, and is most commonly used metal roof decking for new construction projects and has the highest strength to weight ratio that provides a support surface for various types of roofing materials and 1” or thicker rigid insulation.
As you can see in this job, combining the Narrow Ribbed “A” Roof Deck and the Wide Ribbed “B” Roof Decking, help to make the building structurally sound and beautiful. These metal deck types are so popular because they are as strong as they are lightweight, making them easy to install and serving as a structural substrate in roof construction.
