The Rise of Metal in Residential Projects – From Roofs to Pole Barns

Indiana Metal founders discuss the metal trends they see in their community and the growing opportunities to push metal in residential and agricultural projects. 

In a recent episode of the MetalCast podcast, host Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down to chat with the owners and founders of Indiana Metal, Jena and Johnathan Jackson to discuss the company’s origin story as well as their insights into metal trends in their local markets.  

Located in the heart of Indiana, Indiana Metal specializes in metal roofing materials and other metal products such as pole barns and post frame kits. Dedicated to providing contractors and homeowners with quality materials, they have noticed that metal is starting to pick up in popularity among homeowners in their area.  

Jena explained that, for their community, metal is becoming more common in residential projects. “I think homeowners have been asking for [metal roofing] for a while, and there have been a few companies that were actively pushing it...” she shares. “I do think that it is growing. I think in certain aspects, a lot of the metal and shingle mix look is really, at least around here, it's becoming huge. So, houses that maybe never, ever would've had metal before now have the accents, the eyebrows, the porches done in metal. And I think that's just going to continue to grow.” 

Indiana Metal also specializes in customizing pole barn packages, which is another metal style that has become popular as a residential option. Jena and Johnathan themselves live in a customized pole barn style home, which is an easy and affordable building option that many homeowners are starting to find appealing.  

Jonathan elaborated, “The pole barn style home building concepts are easy, quick and cheap to build. So, a lot of people are taking that concept and modifying it and making some really cool projects. Anything from post in ground to stem walls to just some really beautiful homes being built with that concept in mind. And it's pretty fun to be a part of creating them.”
