ROOF X TENDER® by TRI-BUILT™ from Beacon Building Products curated a metal roof detailing playlist to provide contractors with step-by-step instructions on sealing or reinforcing fasteners, seams, penetrations and more. Roof X Tender has continually provided time-tested and proven roofing and waterproofing systems for a variety of clients and created this playlist to share their knowledge and processes with other roofing professionals.
This playlist, hosted by Roof X Tender Field Systems Coordinator, John Walker, walks you through the important steps to create seamless and watertight barriers to maintain the durability and performance of metal roofs.
“Screws, seams, penetrations and other critical areas typically account for 80% of metal roof leaks,” said John. “So it is extremely important to properly seal and reinforce all of these locations.”
Current episodes include:
Exposed fastener. In this episode John completes metal roof detail ME-AC-1, which is designed to sew existing fasteners through all types of metal roofs. This project uses acrylic-based products and performs best when installed during mild weather conditions. The video will inform you of the equipment you will need and John’s two procedure options to achieve properly sealed and reinforced fasteners.
Vertical seam. This episode features John completing metal roof detail ME-AC-2, sealing vertical seams in overlapping metal roof details. Poorly maintained seams in metal roofs account for many leakage issues, so it is important to understand how to apply vertical seam roof detailing to all types of metal roofs.
Flanges and pipes. This roof detail, MA-AC-3, is designed to seal pipes, plumbing vents and other roof penetrations. Like vertical seams, roof penetrations need to maintain a watertight application throughout the lifespan of a roof.
Horizontal seam. The final episode touches on metal roof detail ME-BLT-1, sealing horizontal seams in metal roofs.
