Rhino Roofers take home the gold!

Every year, DECRA Metal Roofing hosts their Project of the Year competition to showcase outstanding residential and commercial projects using DECRA Metal Roofing profiles. It’s one of the ways DECRA recognizes and highlights the incredible work of contractors in the field with their products. This year’s competition was made possible thanks to the support of sponsors: Artisan Colour, Newair, RoofersCoffeeShop, Roofr and Swenson Shear.

A total of 4,646 votes were cast to determine the 2024 winner of the competition–Rhino Roofers! Keep reading to learn more about the incredible craftsmanship behind this project and the other amazing projects that made it to the 2024 finals!

The story behind this year’s award-winning project  

When Rhino Roofers inspected the Povolish family home, they found a roof with ongoing problems. The family’s aging shingle roof had been through years of wear and tear, made worse by poor installation and ventilation issues. Despite several repairs, the leaks kept coming back, leaving the family frustrated and ready for a permanent fix.

They decided it was time for a roof that would solve the problem for good and last for years to come. Choosing DECRA gave them both the durability and peace of mind they needed.

The winning look: DECRA Villa Tile in Amalfi Sand

“DECRA Villa Tile in Ama lfi Sand was chosen for this project because it perfectly matched the family's vision for their home. The family collaboratively selected this color for its soft clay tones and rich orange hues. It beautifully captured their Spanish-Mediterranean aesthetic while complementing the colors and structure of the home. In addition to its visual appeal, DECRA Villa Tile provides exceptional durability, longevity and increased home value. The project spanned 56 squares in total, and once the installation was complete, the family couldn’t have been happier with their new roof. “They love how the new roof completely transforms the look of their home,” shared Rhino Roofers. “We’re proud to have provided them with a solution that not only enhances their home’s beauty but also offers lasting protection they can rely on for years to come.”

How they got started installing DECRA Metal Roofing  

Rhino Roofers has been installing stone-coated metal roofing, including DECRA products, for the past four years. 2024 Project of the Year finalists

While Rhino Roofers took home the crown, we can’t forget to recognize our finalists and their projects (listed in alphabetical order):

AM Construction Services Inc.

AM Construction Services Inc., based in Houston, Texas, is a family owned business that has proudly served the area since 2012. Specializing in a wide range of construction and repair services, they excel in new construction (both commercial and residential), remodeling, roofing, concrete leveling and project management. Their mission is to deliver excellent workmanship and ensure complete client satisfaction from project start to finish. By prioritizing clear communication, professionalism and integrity, they take great care to understand and exceed their customers' needs and expectations.

Their submission featured DECRA Villa Tile in Rustico Clay. “Originally topped with a traditional Spanish-style clay tile roof, the owner mentioned that he wanted to switch to a roofing material that was lightweight, durable, low-maintenance and weather-resistant while maintaining the classic, rustic look of clay tiles,” said Joseph Tin Nguyen.

This was the team’s first time using DECRA for such a large and complex project. “After a few months of research, we found that DECRA Villa Tile perfectly met our customer’s requirements, so we decided to move forward with it — and so far, so good!” The result? A stunning transformation with over 300 squares of DECRA Villa Tile, installed by 10 crews, bringing the homeowner’s vision to life with beauty and resilience.

DoneRite Home Maintenance  

DoneRite Home Maintenance, based in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, offers a range of services, including roofing, gutter cleaning, snow removal from roofs, driveways and sidewalks, siding and carpentry. Chuck Nolden explained that the homeowner wanted a long-lasting steel product with the appearance of a heavy shingle, which led them to choose DECRA Shingle XD in Midnight Eclipse. The submission included 100 squares of new construction, featuring multiple valleys and varying pitches, as well as a detailed chimney flashing requirement. The team completed the job during the winter months in Wisconsin — a testament to the fact that, unlike asphalt shingles, our metal roofs can be installed in winter.

Matrix Roof & Home

Matrix Roof & Home is a fully woman-owned construction company specializing in exterior services like roofing, siding, windows and doors. 

Since its founding in 2007, the company has been serving the Pacific Northwest, particularly the I-5 corridor. About five years ago, they began offering DECRA Metal Roofing and according to Craig Banta, there has recently been a significant increase in demand for this product, resulting in more frequent DECRA installations.

Their submission covered 68 squares and presented unique logistical challenges. The homeowner, located in a high-wind area along the Columbia Gorge in Washington State, needed a roofing product that combined the durability of metal with the appearance and contrast of traditional shake. “DECRA Shake XD in Antique Chestnut proved to be the perfect solution, meeting all the customer’s needs,” said Wendy Marvin.

SPC Construction & Roofing

SPC Construction & Roofing has been serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2008. Out of their eight (yes, eight!) submissions, this 107-square project earned its spot as a finalist. Jonathan Shaw from SPC said, “We’ve built a reputation for quality workmanship, exceptional customer service and a commitment to using innovative materials like DECRA Metal Roofing. To ensure we could deliver the best results, we spent time at DECRA’s distribution center, learning directly from their team and training alongside industry professionals. This hands-on approach not only deepened our knowledge but also helped establish SPC as a trusted name for premium metal roofing in the DFW area.”

Zeus Exteriors

Zeus Exteriors is a family owned roofing contractor serving the greater Dallas and Fort Worth areas since 2022. They offer a range of services, including residential and commercial roofing, window and siding installations and gutter services. Their submission featured multiple valleys and a steep 10/12 pitch. Upon completion, Michael Sicillian noted, “both the homeowner and the community's HOA were thrilled with the results.” DECRA Shingle XD in Classic Cobblestone was chosen for its durability, providing a roof strong enough to withstand the hailstorms common in their part of the state.
