Mr. Rogers did a great job introducing us to the people in our neighborhood but may not have prepared us for all the neighbors. The same could be said for our work environment. In any professional setting, interactions with difficult individuals — be they customers, coworkers, managers or direct reports — are practically inevitable. These challenging interactions can be stressful and disruptive, but they also present opportunities for growth and skill development. Difficult behavior can manifest in various ways, such as aggression, passive-aggressiveness, stubbornness and negativity.
