Month of June Declared “Careers in Roofing” Month in Mississippi

NWIR Tate Reeves Careers in roofing month
June 8, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

By Anna Lockhart.

This designation is to inspire the next generation to find interest in roofing as well as to celebrate and honor fellow Mississippians in the roofing community.

June marks the second annual Careers in Roofing month since Governor Tate Reeves officially declared in 2022 that June is to be the month in which Mississippians celebrate the roofing trade, professionals and industry in their state.

On June 2, 2022, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed the declaration announcing that the state of Mississippi will recognize the hard work of Mississippians who work in the roofing industry and celebrate the impact these hardworking individuals and companies have had on the state’s growth and betterment.

Reeves recognized the importance that careers in roofing play not only for Mississippians, but across the nation. During the month of June, employers, associations and schools are encouraged to promote careers in roofing through hosting or attending job fairs, community events and educational panels that highlight the roofing trade and professionals in the field.

In the declaration, Reeves affirmed Mississippi’s commitment to partnering with National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF), the FORGE Foundation in focusing on funding and growing Mississippian participation in the National Center for Construction Education & Research’s (NCCER) “Build Your Future” initiative. This initiative focuses on encouraging and increasing interest in the next generations to pursue careers in the industry.

In addition, Mississippi Lieutenant Governer C. Delbert Hosemann designated the first week of June as Mississippi’s roofing week, in coordination with NRCA's Roofing Week celebration.

Throughout the month of June, Mississippians are encouraged to share their love and support for those in the roofing industry and highlight the impact roofers have made on their communities. May the people of Mississippi have an impact on the leaders of the next generation of roofing as they celebrate the second annual Careers in Roofing month!
