One of the best parts of roofing conventions and expos is getting to explore the show floor and see what advances are being made in the industry. While at the 2024 International Roofing Expo, The Coffee Shops crew got a chance to stop by the DECRA Metal Roofing booth. While there, Steve Kelchlin walked them through what DECRA has been doing with metal roofing. Steve is DECRA’s business development manager and has worked with them for over seven years now.
One of the products he showed was the DECRA Villa profile. He explained, “Last year, this was our number one product sold across the United States. If you want something that looks like tile, that's lightweight, fire safe and won't break or crack, this is the stuff you want to put on.” The Villa tiles are installed direct to deck and bring together the elegant curves of barrel-style Spanish tile with metal durability.
DECRA also carries metal tiles that are wavy and scalloped, providing a Mediterranean aesthetic. This tile, along with their shake roofing that looks like wood, are profiles that are installed on a batten rather than direct to deck. Steve spoke more about this tile profile, saying, “This DECRA tile is our original product that came out on the market over 68 years ago, and today is used in 120 countries.” One of the key factors that has made these tile and shake profiles so popular is that they won’t break or crack and are lighter than the traditional asphalt shingle. But even more than that, they have stood the test of time.
