In Season 1, Episode 27 of MetalCast™, Karen Edward spoke to Jon Olson of Malco Products about METALCON 2023 and how they are pushing boundaries in the industry. They are constantly developing new and improved technology to help professionals complete their jobs better. For example, their C-RHEX driver is the product of "taking some observations within the field of people who don't necessarily want to be running their hand snip the length of a roof. And so, we took some innovation around the snips that we do, and we applied it there,” according to John.
This is not the only innovative work they do. They recently released their MC12L Snip, which is used for cutting and prepping materials. It’s a leading tool in the field and has been recognized as such. John recalled, “It's been recognized by the industry by winning the Pro Tools Innovation Award this year as well as the dealer design award.” Another example of their work getting recognition is their adjustable sizing gauge, which they also received a Pro Tool Innovation Award for in 2023.
Malco is incredibly proud of this recognition from the people who use it day in and day out, but that doesn’t stop them from working on the next step. John reiterated, “We truly strive to take the feedback and awareness of what we see and hear from the industry and incorporate it into our tool designs and solutions.”
For the 2023 METALCON, Malco launched a line of metal benders. These tools give contractors the ability to adjust the spacing between the rollers of the bender to gain more control by pressuring the metal directly. John says they had contractors in mind, saying “We really put it in the hands of the contractor to recognize what is best for them, and work to make sure that they have the right tools for the job.”
And Malco doesn’t just want to push the industry forward, they are investing in the entire community’s future as well. John expressed, “We're very lucky as a member of the community to get the opportunity to give back through events like Skills USA. We also engage in the Head of the Class program which facilitates instructors recognizing students within the classroom with some tools that will help them as they grow in their field.” In addition to this, they reach out to their surrounding community through partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
