METALCON is one of the premier events in the metal construction industry and one of the best places to get insights on the metal roofing and construction industry. At the show, Brooks Morgan spoke with Charlie Smith of McElroy Metal. The conversation revolved around the highlights of the show and Charlie discussed McElroy Metal's groundbreaking contributions in the industry
Despite not having massive foot traffic, Smith highlighted the significance of meaningful interactions over sheer numbers. "It's been a really good show for me. The traffic wasn't huge, but the quality of the guys that stopped in were very good for me," Charlie said.
When discussing McElroy Metal's offerings, Smith unveiled a symmetrical industrial panel designed to address drawbacks in traditional trapezoidal standing seams. The innovation allows for easy alterations without disrupting the building, and various fixed clips, including a super clip and continuous clip, enhance wind uplift capacity.
"I came up with a system to solve all that which is, basically it's a two-piece standing seam,” he said. “It's symmetrical, and it has a cap that's machine seamed on."
Charlie emphasized that the panels are site-formed, eliminating lap joints, and can be easily modified on-site. The modular tool allows for seamless alterations without disturbing the building structure. “No matter how long the panel is, we're going to make it on the job,” he said.
Charlie said that he will be attending the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) military show in San Antonio, as well as the 2024 International Roofing Expo.
