In a recent episode of the MetalCast podcast, Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with Jena and Jonathan Jackson to discuss their company, Indiana Metal, and the story of how they started out in the business. Starting from an original career in installation services with their own installation company, Jena and Jonathan made their way into the metal manufacturing side of the industry.
Jena explained how their installation business transformed into Indiana Metal, “As the [installation company] grew, we really started to specialize in metal, and we were fabricating all of our own metal for that company... We were specializing in standing seam, the architectural panels.” She continued, “We started talking about a way that we could maybe, not install, not do so much physical labor and maybe also a way that I could join the company, in a day-to-day aspect, which is not something I'd been doing. So, from that Indiana Metal was born.”
Located in the heart of Indiana, Indiana Metal specializes in metal roofing materials and other roofing products. Indiana Metal values building lasting relationships with their customers and strives to create quality products that fit a wide variety of client needs. One of the ways they build relationships is by looking for educational opportunities in helping contractors learn how to utilize metal to boost their sales and offer customers a unique product to better differentiate themselves from competitors.
Jonathan has taken to teaching metal first-timers about metal roofing materials and how installation is both similar and different from traditional materials. He explained, “When I talk to guys that haven't done anything with metal, I really try to relate it to shingles. It's the same thing, we're still keeping water out of the house and once they break it down and realize that this isn't some unheard of specialty roof that hardly anyone knows anything about, it seems like they open up and then realize that it's another roofing system, another tool in their tool belt to provide customers and they really usually catch on pretty quickly.”
Jena and Jonathan have opened the doors of Indiana Metal to contractors interested in training at their facility as well as through their mobile unit. The mobile unit allows them to load up miniature practice houses and take them directly to the contractors’ offices so they can do on-site metal installation training. Providing these training opportunities for contractors has really enabled them to make an impact on their community, and over time, they’ve seen an increase in metal roofing popularity locally.
Indiana Metal provides local contractors with the quality metal materials and education they need to provide residential and commercial customers with the best roofs possible, and they’re a great resource for their local community to check out as they continue to grow and show their community what they’re capable of!
