In the first episode of MetalTalk, Heidi J. Ellsworth welcomed Mark MacDonald, Sherwin-Williams' sales and marketing manager, and John Sheridan of Sheridan Metal Resources, to talk about the high demand of metal products in the roofing industry.
Being a roof installer since the ‘70s, John has seen metals’ exponential growth and is well versed in the advantages of having a metal roof. Although Mark started with Sherin-Williams in the paint industry, he has focused and specialized in metal since 2017. Both understand the superiority of metal roofing, and discuss with us the growing reroofing opportunities.
With changing climate and weather, it’s important to be prepared for anything. As Mark says, “Metal is obviously much more durable than any other substrate. And for that reason, you're seeing it in different regions.” Noticing an increase in the Southeast U.S., more and more residential homes are opting for metal roofing due to weather. When other homes have their roofs torn off from extreme weather, it’s been evident that the metal roofs remain in place. While they discuss residential statistics, commercial metal roofing is also taking off at the same rate.
Metal is the popular choice nowadays for many reasons, such as, “performance, durability [and] aesthetics,” Mark claims. John adds, “Factor[ing] in all of the elements that make metal attractive, it's actually a better roof, cost effective if you cost it out, it's definitely as effective as a shingle roof.”
Want to learn more about metal?
Sherwin-Williams is one of the leading companies in metal coatings, which means they know a thing or two when it comes to metal products. After hearing Sherwin-Williams' experts talk about the benefits of metal, maybe you want to inquire more? That’s where MetalVue comes in. MetalVue is a program designed to help contractors sell more metal and bring it into their businesses. “And so, we're just empowering these new organizations to go after that homeowner and offer them something that's new and that's how we create incremental market demand.” Mark says.
“Part of the thing I liked about the MetalVue program was how comprehensive it was as far as providing a detailed breakdown of the roof material lists, the whole process,” John states. It’s a great organization to help inform and promote metal products.
