Hex drivers of all shapes and sizes

Learn about three of Malco’s innovative and versatile drivers.

Malco Tools got started in the 1950s when Mark W. Keymar, a steel supply salesman started making and marketing a pipe crimper he invented. Though they started with just one ductwork tool, today Malco produces a wide variety of tools for all areas of the construction industry. In this episode of MetalTalk, Karen Edwards sat down with Malco’s VP of Marketing, Rebecca Talbot, to talk about the tools they sell, specifically their drivers and fasteners, which are “at the core of a lot of what Malco's business is.” They have a wide variety of these tools (for pretty much any application needed), but Rebecca highlighted three of them in particular.

C-RHEX® Cleanable-Reversible

These innovative drivers are perfect for professionals in HVAC, roofing and the larger construction industry. Designed for versatility, durability and convenience, these hex drivers feature a unique, patented design that features two hex sizes on one shaft. Rebecca explained a bit more, saying, “These feature a magnet that helps you get your fastener into the socket. It also means that when you're using them on the job, you're easily able to pop them off that driver shaft, clean out the socket, clean the magnet and have premium tool operation because you're able to clean the magnet right away, along with not needing to always carry multiple tools since we have two socket sizes on there.”

C-RHEX® Building Construction

Malco also has their non-flippable hex driver that are designed more for use with impact drivers. These spring-loaded sockets are impact rated and feature a deeper magnet depth for a stronger, more secure hold. Like most of Malco’s sockets, these come in a variety of sizes that make them a very versatile option. Rebecca explained, “You are going to find things that are applicable for whatever it is you need it to be, even to the extent of the length of the shaft on the driver. We have it from six inches to two inches. I've heard from some that those six-inch ones are nice because you don't have to hunch over as far, and you have a little bit more space between your impact or drill.”

C-RHEX® Sawtooth

Rebecca also highlighted Malco’s sawtooth driver, which is ideal for efficiently removing screws, even if they are covered in mastic or sealant. Durable and compact, these drivers come in two sizes (1/4″ and 5/16″) that are easy to clean. They get their name from their unique design which features a coating edge. Rebecca elaborated, “The uniqueness around this tool is that it has teeth that allow you to cut through that sealant, so you no longer need to take out flat screwdriver or a putty knife or even potentially harming your hand.”
