For decades now, Julie and Steve Wolfe have been giving back to their community through their work as a foster family. They have fostered dozens of children in need, but recently found that they were in need of a new roof. Their roof had been leaking for a while and they feared that the water damage would lead to mold and cause damage to their health.
In 2021, Julie and Steve were both battling cancer. Julie had been diagnosed with stage-four soft tissue sarcoma and Steve was battling prostate cancer. Although Steve is now cancer-free, Julie is still fighting her cancer. The two reached out to KGW8 earlier this year to see if anyone would be willing to help repair their home. Thankfully, their story caught the eye of Vancouver home improvement company, High Performance Homes.
After seeing the Wolfe family story on the news, High Performance Homes’ owners, Cameron and Parveen, called Steve to get their new roof replacement arranged. “They called the Thursday morning after it aired,” Steve told KGW8. “And she [Julie] couldn’t even talk. She called me and I was speechless. I was just blown away.”
By July, the Wolfe family had a new roof installed free-of-charge and a newfound sense of hope for the future of their home. When asked about their work on the Wolfe family’s home, Michael Mijokovic from High Performance Homes said, “They will never have to worry about a leak again. When you do as much for the community as the Wolfe’s have you got to step in, we’ve got to help out.”
After getting their new roof installed, Julie showed immense gratitude to those who helped them out. “All I could say was thank you, thank you, thank you! I don’t know what else to say. My whole body was just vibrating, I was so excited,” she said. "It just really renews your faith in people.”
