In a recent episode of MetalCast, hosted by Heidi J. Ellsworth, a critical issue within the construction industry was discussed — the labor shortage. Joshua Engelbrecht, CEO and founder of the online platform ToolBelt, took part in the conversation to share how his platform is easing the burden.
Joshua, a former general contractor himself, understands firsthand the challenges of finding skilled labor for projects. According to him, "The labor shortage is just more magnified by the inadequate ways that we find each other." This realization led him to create ToolBelt, a centralized solution to connect contractors with qualified tradespeople.
In its early stages, ToolBelt primarily focused on the Pacific Northwest, but now it services "at least 50 of the top metro markets across the United States." The platform offers a broad spectrum of construction trades, from roofing to metalwork.
But ToolBelt is not just another job search platform, it is designed to facilitate lasting professional relationships. Joshua noted, "Our ultimate goal is to connect these people for long-term relationships... I want you off our platform because I want you working, because that means our overall economy is actually getting bigger."
ToolBelt's expansion has not only been geographical but also technological. Initially a mobile-first platform, it has now launched a web application, providing more access for users who prefer using desktops.
Involvement in programs like the Metal View Program with Sherwin-Williams demonstrates ToolBelt's commitment to helping contractors advance their businesses. As the construction industry continues to grapple with labor shortages, platforms like ToolBelt provide an efficient, innovative solution to connect contractors and skilled workers, thereby easing the labor market strain.
