In this episode of MetalCast™, Karen Edwards got to speak to Paul Watts of Watts Removal Products about how they are making cleaning a quick and painless process. One of their products, the Cleansweep, is a great representation of the efficacy of their work. This cleaner is a non-damaging removal product that is effective on everything from spray paint and permanent markers to grease and smoke damage.
Another thing this product can be applied to is strippable film on the job site. Paul explained, “You can put it in a pump spray, or you can use it with a trigger or a bucket.” From there you can begin cleaning your metal panels. Your exact methodology will depend on if the surface still has adhesive on it or just the plastic remnants. Paul explained the general idea, “Put the product on, let it sit for a while, especially on the adhesive. You can work it with a small little brush. And then we like to say get a corner of it and you can start peeling it off.”
Using the Cleansweep is both more efficient and effective, Paul elaborated, “Our products will get in those little nooks and crannies and get in that crack, and then it'll loosen up that adhesive and you'll be able to either rinse it off or lightly take a damp towel or something and pull that off.” This is better than simply pressure washing aggressively, which can run the risk of removing too much from the panel and leaving it exposed, without a protective coating.
And the Cleansweep is usable in a variety of scenarios, both before and after installation. Paul recalled, “We had a property here in Portland. They put up all the black mat panels and it was Sherwin-Williams, and then probably four or five months with all the construction dust, it just acts like Velcro.” This was no problem for the Cleansweep, which was able to remove all of the accumulated dust, grim, pollen and more!
