In a recent episode of the MetalCast podcast, host Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with the Metal Construction Association (MCA) Executive Director, Jeff Henry, to discuss their 40th anniversary and what the last four decades have looked like for the organization.
Since 2020, Jeff has served as the organization’s executive director and has been in active leadership roles since 2012. The organization is dedicated to promoting the use of metal in the construction industry and promoting the marketing, education and advocacy efforts of the building community.
Jeff reflected on the founding of the association and its goals, “In the early '80s, [the founders] saw a need for an association that had broader reach and that was more inclusive. With the funding of eight of those members, MCA was created on June 1, 1983.” He continued to explain, “The outcome of that was 73 companies signing up to join the association. We've been off and running ever since, promoting the use of metal, documenting its performance and advocating on the industry's behalf.”
As Jeff and the members of MCA look toward the future ahead, they hope to accomplish great advancements for metal and metal professionals in the construction industry. One goal, in particular, is to focus on sustainability and decarbonization.
“A major focus is on this topic of sustainability and how do we position metal in a favorable light? It's got a great story to tell and we do think when you look at the entire cradle to grave perspective, we have huge opportunity from a sustainability perspective in the marketplace,” Jeff explained.
As metal continues to grow in popularity as a favorable roofing material for residential and commercial projects, we wish the MCA all the best in successfully advocating for metal in the many more years to come!
