By Jesse Sanchez.
In this MetalCast™ interview, host Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke with Bobby Mesmer, CEO of RMG Erectors and Constructors, about the exciting trends redefining the industry. RMG is currently the world’s largest pre-engineered steel building erector and Bobby shared how his company’s innovative approach is shaping the future of construction.
Bobby discussed how advancements in engineering are allowing metal buildings to break free from the traditional "box" design associated with pre-engineered structures. “If you talk to some old timers about pre-engineered, they talk about it as its traditional box. Now, engineering techniques are allowing the market of pre-engineered to expand into so many other markets,” Bobby said.
One of the key advantages Bobby noted is the improved thermal efficiency of metal buildings compared to conventional wood construction. This shift is not only about aesthetics but also performance, with metal buildings boasting better thermal ratings when designed and erected correctly. He explained, “Our buildings tend to have a better thermal rating when designed, engineered and erected correctly than most other buildings, you can't duplicate that, you can't get that in some other buildings like, say, conventional wood construction."
Bobby also stressed the importance of education in advancing the metal industry. He pointed out that there’s a growing effort to educate developers, architects and engineers about the benefits of pre-engineered metal buildings, stating, “There's a lot of involvement in educating the outside world, the developers, the end users, the architects, the engineers into the product to give them a more thorough understanding.”
