Solving challenges for Tesla's Gigafactory one wipe at a time

The Tesla Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada has made headlines for pushing the production of electric semi-trucks for well-known companies like Pepsi-Co. But, even before production began at this location, it needed to be built to very unique specifications to support the amount of battery production it needs to handle. This is where Kingspan Insulated Panels came in, providing advanced insulated panels to make the factory’s building envelope highly efficient with superior thermal performance and a reduction of energy consumption overall. This project is a huge step forward for sustainable building practices, but it did hit a few bumps along the way.  

In an initial email from a Kingspan regional sales manager to Kingspan purchasing manager, they explained that there is an area being stained during the construction process, saying, “They tried cleaning it off, but it seems stained. Can you check with painters on how to remove something like that?”  

One of the key factors in this was cleaning the staining without ruining the paint system. The solution came in the form of Watts Removal Products contacting the original Kingspan regional sales manager. Through their correspondence, they were able to diagnose the problem and the Cleansweep® product was sent out. This product is highly effective and economical, designed to remove everything from adhesives to graffiti without negatively impacting the original paint. It is also important to note that Watts Removal Products are all environmentally friendly, furthering the sustainable nature of the entire project! Once the Cleansweep arrived in Reno, the staining was successfully removed.
