In a recent episode of MetalCast, industry experts Brian McLaughlin and Jim Alexander from Drexel Metals spoke about the significance of American-made metal roofing products, their quality standards and safety measures.
Brian, national sales manager for Drexel Metals with 13 years of experience, touched on the strict quality standards in the United States. "America has some of the most stringent standards, a lot of it's backed via the ASTM," he said, referring to the American Society for Testing and Materials. These standards ensure the core material—whether steel or aluminum—is of the highest quality, especially crucial in regions prone to extreme weather conditions like hurricanes.
Jim, southeast regional sales manager for Drexel Metals, echoed Brian's thoughts about quality. "With everything that's going on in the world today with a lot of the manufacturers that are offshore suppliers that are out there, it's very difficult to control the quality of the product that you're getting from offshore," he said. Jim emphasized that all Drexel Metal products have Florida product approvals and Miami-Dade approvals, ensuring their suitability for hurricane-prone areas.
Apart from quality, the conversation veered toward the benefits of buying American-made products. "Everybody wants a really good product at a fair price, but when you throw the other part of it, that our products are 99% American, that really carries a lot of weight with it as well," Jim added. Supporting local industries not only boosts the economy but also reduces carbon footprints.
