Modified bitumen (mod bit) membranes are a great combination of traditional roofing materials with modern polymer technology. This combo results in a product that has enhanced durability and flexibility. Mule-Hide Products’ SA-APP KoolCap® and APP Torch G KoolCap® modified bitumen cap sheets are a great example of how powerful these products can be. With a myriad of benefits including puncture-resistance and “cool roof” ratings, these two products are powerful players in the low-slope roofing industry.  

Highly reflective, the APP-modified cap sheets retain their bright, white surfaces after long-term weathering. These membranes are designed for heat-welded (torch) application. They also meet the requirements of California’s Title 24 building energy-efficiency code and are Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC)-rated, with an initial Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 96. 

The innovative CURE Technology® — a solvent-free, environmentally friendly thin film technology — gives the membranes exceptional granule retention, resistance to stains and discoloration and ability to withstand ultraviolet (UV) rays. 

Polyester reinforcement gives the membranes superior flexibility, tensile strength and dimensional stability. Both membranes have FASTLAP® technology. A 6-inch granule-free selvage end lap on each roll speeds up installation and provides a better end lap seam without use of a modified adhesive. 

SA-APP KoolCap membranes also include SEALLap® ULTRA side lap technology. Factory-applied adhesive on the top (side lap) and bottom of the sheet provides 100% adhesive coverage under the removable film, creating an immediate watertight bond in roll-to-roll seaming. This means that SA-APP KoolCap membranes offer the safety and ease of self-adhering application. 

The membranes also are available in fire-resistant formulations — SA-APP KoolCap FR and APP Torch G FR KoolCap — that can be incorporated into systems that achieve Class A fire ratings.
