Landfill. Pollution. Climate change. These three are some of the biggest topics worldwide. How do we reduce our carbon footprint? How do we better our environment? Solving some of these issues is Vicwest.
Vicwest is durable, inspirational, and most importantly, sustainable. They pride themselves on their Planet Passionate Strategy to help reduce waste. From using battery operated forklifts to LED lightbulbs, Vicwest is showing that you don’t have to sacrifice quality by being green.
In their strategy, they installed solar panels on over half of their factories! They project that by the end of 2023, they will be running 80% off of solar power. But why just use one natural power source? They also have a rainwater harvester set up in one of their facilities. The hope is to set it up in two of their other locations that receive high rain patterns.
But that’s not all they hope to accomplish this year. Even when their products are meant to last for years, they still wanted to cut back the amount of waste they leave behind. In the span of two years, they were able to half their steel waste and their goal is to eventually eliminate it completely.
Making these changes to their business helps reinforce their beliefs in their environmentally friendly products. Vice President of Operations Bernard Lewis says, “It is encouraging to know that we are eliminating our impact on the resources and the environment we take for granted and building for tomorrow by supporting and promoting Planet Passionate.”
By working together with our suppliers and our contractors, it may be possible to turn the entire industry around and create a more impactful product without creating more waste.
