In a recent episode of the MetalCast podcast, host Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with John Sheridan, founder and CEO of Sheridan Metal Resources, to discuss the exciting new Metal Training Zone to be featured at the 2023 METALCON show! John shared what the zone will feature and what attendees will be able to learn by participating in this unique opportunity.
Stop by booth #6071 at this year’s METALCON convention to experience the Metal Training Zone! Learn from the metal experts themselves as they perform metal working demonstrations and guide participants through various skill practices! John will be one of the head metal roofing professionals leading the training zone and will be there to discuss the trade or guide lessons with those interested in participating. With over four decades of experience in the trade, John has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with aspiring individuals interested in the trade.
The training zone was specifically designed with inclusion and accessibility in mind. From providing a Spanish section and translation to having members of National Women in Roofing (NWiR) participate in heading the zone, there is a place for any convention attendee to try their hand at working with metal. John shared, “I just wanted to be as inclusive as possible and de-stress people as much as possible and not be intimidated by getting into metal roofing.”
The Metal Training Zone will be open and operating throughout the entire METALCON event, from October 18 – 20. John shared that they plan to demonstrate various metal projects and applications over the course of the convention, so there’s always something unique and new to learn.
“We'll be doing three different types of [metal roofing systems] at METALCON and they're going to be a fun hands-on thing that anybody can walk out of the crowd that's never touched a piece of metal and help us put that roof together and walk away feeling like they're comfortable working with that system,” he explained.
Overall, the Metal Training Zone will be a great opportunity to learn a little bit of everything about the trade! “We'll have several different systems covered, several different points of view from the English perspective as well as a Spanish teacher. National Women in Roofing will be able to walk people through if they are interested. So, I think overall we'll be putting together a good presentation that reaches a good group of people and kind of helps demystify it a little bit.”
