The striking blue metal panels on this elementary school serve as a symbol of school pride and innovative design, standing up against the harsh desert climate.

Doris Reed Elementary in Las Vegas, Nevada, originally built in 1987, faced a pressing challenge: how to accommodate a surge of students while maintaining an engaging and inspiring environment. The answer? A fast, cost-effective construction plan incorporating metal wall panels finished with Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings.

Over fourteen months, the school embarked on an ambitious project – adding 18 classrooms and updating its exterior. The school’s transformation made a bold visual statement, aligning with Doris Reed Elementary’s vision to foster a safe, positive and engaging community.

At the heart of this design are striking blue PAC-CLAD Precision Series HWP wall panels, coated in Sherwin-Williams' Fluropon®, which was selected because of its superior durability and color retention, not to mention that it comes in over 50,000 different colors, making it easy to find a good match for the elementary school. The color, inspired by the school’s Roadrunner mascot, creates an eye-catching contrast against the desert landscape, reinforcing school spirit and identity. Bold bump-outs and overhangs add architectural interest, capturing the school’s mission to promote academic excellence and integrity in a vibrant learning space.

Beyond aesthetics, metal panels provide durability and longevity to help the school withstand harsh environmental conditions. The use of Sherwin-Williams coil coatings guarantees resistance to fading and wear, keeping the campus looking fresh with each new school year.

Combining project speed, efficiency and a bold design, this elementary school showcases the power of metal construction. Learn more about Sherwin-Williams' collaboration around the globe to help bring architecture to life in vibrant color that stands up against time and climate.
