For the Great Lakes Roofing Corporation (GLRC), finding ways to give back is just part of the job. In 1987 they established their Helping Hands program for community projects in which they volunteer time and materials to those who need it a few times a year. Outside of roofing, they have a reputation for donating turkeys around Thanksgiving to organizations within the community that support families in need.
When the Roofing Alliance committed to adopting chapters of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) around the U.S. in 2017, GLRC quickly jumped in to help at the Madison House. Last year they also added RHMC-Marshfield when a staff member realized this location had lost their roofing partner.
The re-roofing project finished up earlier this year, a notable community project for GLRC as both are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. David Kaufman, GLRC’s field manager, felt a special connection to the project, sharing his own experience when his son was born prematurely in a recent press release. “When your main concern is the care and wellbeing of your child, knowing that RMHC is available so that you can stay close enough to be there for your child, that’s an invaluable support system for parents,” he empathized.
David and another colleague will be volunteering at Marshfield House this September to represent GLRC. As president of GLRC, Chris Lampien also believes in working with RMHC in any capacity because of his personal experiences. When a staff member told him about the need in Marshfield, he didn’t think twice. He explained, “We believe in the mission of RMHC and are committed to giving what we can.” The staff at RMHC-Marshfield were incredibly grateful for the support from GLRC and to GAF and ABC Supply who helped donate materials for the job.
