By Cayden Wemple.
David and Janet Robertson had a dream of building a unique and energy-efficient home on their 80-acre hobby farm in North Carolina. After extensive research, they opted for a "Barndominium," a post-frame building that combines residential living quarters with storage space, to accommodate their needs. However, they needed to ensure that the materials used to construct the building were durable, low-maintenance and energy-efficient. That's when they turned to American Building Components (ABC) for metal roofing and wall panels.
The Robertsons chose Mid-State Metals of Cleveland, North Carolina, to design the buildings and supply ABC's Imperial Rib® panels to builder AW & Sons Construction of Salisbury, North Carolina. The Robertsons selected Coal Black for the roofing panels and Vintage White for the wall panels, both of which complemented the natural surroundings of their farm.
One of the main advantages of using metal panels is their longevity and low maintenance. The Robertsons appreciated the fact that the metal panels would offer better resale value, making their investment in the barndominium worthwhile. Additionally, the panels are energy-efficient, which aligns with the couple's commitment to sustainability. As a result, the Robertsons' monthly energy bill averaged $73 from July 2020 to June 2021, which includes air conditioning and a little electric heat, during real cold spells.
The Robertsons' "barndominium" is a unique and energy-efficient living space that reflects their commitment to sustainability and their passion for hobby farming. With metal panels from ABC and excellent service from Mid-State Metals and AW & Sons Construction, the Robertsons were able to bring their dream home to life.
