The Metal Construction Association (MCA) celebrated their 40th anniversary earlier this year! In Season 1, Episode 15 of MetalCast, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with Jeff Henry, executive director of MCA, to discuss the mission of this association and help contractors get involved in the industry.
Jeff begins, saying, “Our purpose as an organization, is to promote the use of metal in the building envelope. We do that through our marketing efforts, educational programming and our advocacy efforts to help address policy issues that influence the use of metal in that building envelope.” While most of their membership is made up of larger commercial contractors, he encourages anyone who is interested to join. “We welcome contractors to get engaged, to be sure to take advantage of our resources, take advantage of the networking opportunities that you have with manufacturers and product suppliers, so that you can ensure you’re meeting best practices in the application of those products.”
Joining trade associations as a contractor can help not only further your professional development, but also help you grow your business. Tradeshow season is here and what better reason to branch out and add metal to your professional toolbox? MCA is a sponsor for METALCON this October in Las Vegas, Nevada, the largest metal construction and design event in the world. They are also seeing a growing interest in and presence of metal across other large events. The International Roofing Expo (IRE) had a NRCA ProCertification program on how to install metal roofing properly this year and is sure to have even more to offer next year!
It is never too late to become a member, and this association isn’t just limited to manufacturers and distributors. Why join? Jeff explains, “Building those relationships is probably the greatest value any trade association offers. We have a fantastic network of people across the entire spectrum of them, of metal and construction.”
