How collaboration is helping homeowners in need, one roof at a time.

Roofs are expensive renovations that take money, time and energy. Coordinating, budgeting and finding the right roofer can be a struggle for homeowners with busy lives; however, sometimes they urgently need a new roof after years of disrepair and either don’t have the funds to repair their roof or don’t know where to start. Several roofers from across the country are helping alleviate the stress for these homeowners in need by replacing the following roofs for free.

1 - JP Roofing and veteran Robert Rawlings

At twenty-five, Robert Rawlings enlisted in the U.S. Army and continued to serve for eight years. "Second A-C-R Cav. I was stationed in Germany, where Hitler was at. I also got an Army Achievement Medal when I was there," Robert said to CBS News. "When I got out, basically, I've lived on this street, my mom is around the corner, so I basically looked for a job and started all over."

In Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Robert's roof began to leak. Luckily, JP Roofing and Metal Buildings, Inc., along with Owens Corning, teamed up to replace Robert’s roof for free. A team of ten workers and a project manager set out to fix his roof and completed $10,000 worth of work. "I am so thankful and so grateful that somebody had stepped up to the plate, a company like JP Roofing to come and help a veteran like me, and all the other veterans that have the opportunity to get this," Robert said.

2 - Owens Corning and veteran Derek Ingram

Residents in Florida are familiar with the threat of hurricanes being more prevalent than most other areas in the U.S. Since 2000, almost eighty hurricanes have hit the state. Each hurricane has the potential to cause millions of dollars of damage for Floridians. Along with high causality numbers, hurricanes cause significant damage to homes and buildings, especially the roofs.

While living in this environment with the potential for disaster, Derek Ingram needed his roof fixed and needed some support to replace it. With the help of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, his roof was replaced at no cost. The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project has helped several veterans since 2016 by helping them with their roofing struggles.

3 - Northwest Quality Roofing and the Keiper family

Every year, Central Oregon Daily News and Northwest Quality Roofing hold their Raise the Roof Contest. People are encouraged to submit pictures of their home and why they feel they need a new roof. The Keiper family, in Bend, Oregon, won this year's contest and Northwest Quality Roofing worked on replacing their roof for free earlier this year. The Keiper family wanted a new roof but were unable to complete the restoration for several reasons. "We've been planning on a new roof for so many years," Candice Keiper told Central Oregon Daily News. "Here was our plan and life has taken us in a different direction. Northwest Quality Roofing has made it so those two points can connect."
